WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE DISABLED?
lady-wheelchairSocial Security Administration defines disability as an inability to do substantial gainful employment. Being unable to do a current position is not enough to be disabled, all past relevant work is looked at, with the 15 years before your alleged disability being most relevant. While you may not be interested in taking on prior work which may have yielded less pay, The Social Security Administration is charged with awarding benefits to those who CANNOT before any reasonable work activities. Many factors go into this analysis, such as supporting statements from medical doctors, attending doctor appointments, your age, your level of education and whether your condition can be controlled with medications, thereby allowing you to return to gainful employment.
